Sen. Bernie Sanders will deliver a speech Saturday at the University of New England's commencement ceremony.
The U.S. senator from Vermont will address the class of 2024 at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine.
"Sen. Sanders is an important part of the American political landscape," UNE President James Herbert said in a news release. "He is a tireless advocate for expanding health care access, especially to underserved populations. As Maine’s only medical school with a deep commitment to that very cause, we are honored to have him as our commencement speaker this year."
In February, Sanders invited Herbert to testify before a U.S. Senate subcommittee regarding the health care workforce shortage.
The politician, currently serving his third Senate term, is among several notable graduation speakers this year.
"Seinfeld" co-creator Jerry Steinfield addressed graduates at the Duke University commencement ceremony on May 12, which many students were seen walking out of to protest his support of Israel. Emmy-nominated actor Kathryn Hahn is set to be Northwestern’s commencement speaker on June 9.
How to watch Bernie Sanders UNE speech?
Sen. Bernie Sanders will deliver his University of New England speech on Saturday, May 18 at 10 a.m. ET.
